Remembering Paul

From Alice…

"On May 2nd, at Paul's home, we honoured and celebrated the life of our dear friend, Paul Clark…

"…Paul lived a full and generous life. He was kind, adventurous, and endlessly curious, and he was happiest when surrounded by friends—sharing stories, music, and laughter. He touched so many lives, and we would love to gather together to celebrate everything he meant to us."

“Here's to you, our dear friend!”

One of Paul's Favourite Poems…

It is time to work on the meeting duties for 2026/27, which starts on July 1, 2026.

Volunteer positions include Setup/Takedown, Attendance, Sergeant and Audio Visual.

By choosing a month to support our club, you will be asked to volunteer for 2 or 4 meetings.

Volunteering early allows you to select the prime spots.

Sergeant's duties are wrapped up, except for the 2nd meeting of the month.  This is an opportunity to gently poke fun at your fellow members and raise some cash for the club, and if you are the Sergeant, you are free from fines.

Attendance-taking is a great way to put faces to names, especially valuable for new members.  And, for seasoned members, an opportunity to connect with new members.

Audio Visual needs a bit of training, but keep in mind that two members did most of the meetings this past year.  We need to avoid volunteer fatigue.

Please consider volunteering for meeting duties, and be prepared to see a sign-up sheet at the next meeting.

Thank you for giving this your attention, and for volunteering.  We cannot do this without you!

Leslie

Martin's Memo…

"Over the last several months, some incredible work has been carried out by the RotarACT clubs in our District, particularly the RotarACT E Club for Peace and Education and the University of Calgary RotarACT Club. They complied, designed and printed 250 copies of an Afghan Recipes Calendar.

Sponsors of the calendar were The Rotary Club of Calgary at Stampede Park, The Rotary Club of Cochrane, Andrew Bronson and Sue Carpenter-Parnell.

On Saturday, May 2nd, the 250 calendars were taken to the Pidherney Event Centre in Red Deer, the site of the 5360 Rotary District Conference. The four boxes were unloaded in the House of Friendship at the Rotaract
tables, and almost immediately, people started to buy the calendars. Over the next two days, hundreds of Rotarians approached the tables and asked the Rotaractors from the Rotaract clubs at the University of Calgary, the University of Lethbridge, and SAIT what the fundraiser was for. They explained that it was to help Afghan women continue their education by purchasing devices such as phones, tablets, and laptops. By the end of the Conference, over 125 calendars had been sold, raising over $2,500, with many Rotarians taking multiple copies to sell at their Rotary clubs."
