“Building the Leadership Table”
With The Trail formally established as a Signature Project, the next step was to build the governance structure needed to guide such a large-scale project.
A Steering Committee was formed to provide leadership, oversight, and strategic direction as planning work began to advance. Recognizing that trail development intersects multiple jurisdictions, disciplines, and community interests, the committee was intentionally structured to bring a broad range of perspectives to the table.
Representation included Rotary leadership, municipal partners, provincial parks planning expertise, trail development specialists, communications and funding leadership, financial oversight, and community stakeholders — ensuring that decisions would be informed, balanced, and regionally aligned.
To support the technical planning and implementation process, the committee engaged Urban Systems — a professional consulting firm specializing in infrastructure, transportation, and community planning — to help guide feasibility work, alignment planning, stakeholder coordination, and long-term project structuring.
With governance leadership and technical expertise in place, the foundation was set to begin moving the project from concept into coordinated implementation.
