On May 28th, the Cochrane Immigrant Services held their monthly Cultural Cooking event. The Rotary Club of Cochrane was acknowledged as the sponsor of these events, and this month, it was an Indigenous offering...Inuvik Bannock. Kelly Gordon, Inuvialuit land-based artist and cultural educator, made the dough, and the participants kneaded it. Then it was time to place it in boiling oil. The result is a beautiful bannock doughnut, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Then add, butter, cinnamon, berries, sauce and whipped cream...take a bite....amazing. The people who came, new and old comers, had a wonderful time enjoying the food and sharing stories. This is how a community is built. -Martin
Please join President Anita in welcoming Robert Hayes, CEO and President of the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation. CSEC's empire includes the Calgary Flames, the Calgary Stampeders, the Calgary Roughnecks (lacrosse), the WHL Hitmen and the AHL Wranglers. The major project the CSEC is undertaking is the Saddledome replacement. No doubt Robert will update us on that project, as well as updates on the Flames and the CSEC's other sports teams.
Previous Club Event: June 2
Our Club welcomed Juliet Goveia, who presented her Introductory Talk on her life and times.
Samson presented a cheque for $400 to All Saints Anglican Church on behalf of the Rotary Club of Cochrane to support their upcoming Stampede Lunch on July 5th. This event is open to everyone!
Sergeant-at-Arms is a regular part of Rotary Clubs, usually happening near the end of general Club meetings. It is a long-standing tradition observed by many Rotary Clubs around the world. It is a fun way to poke fun at club members humorously and affectionately, while raising funds for the greater good of the community and our world.
