Sept. 9 Meeting Notes

Anita started the meeting with a new O Canada video.

Hank reported he and Clark picked up 110 flats (2,640 cans) of Iron Lung Ale (Fahr Brewery, Germany) donated by RI Host Committee. Hank and Clark delivered it to the Cochrane Legion for their use. The retail value of this beer donation to the Legion is over $10,000.

Manon presented Judie with her District 5360 DEI Chair badge.

Sue presented a membership pin to Rachelle, our Rotary exchange student from the Netherlands.

Bob encouraged members to attend Big Hill Lodge fundraiser Sept. 20. Details on poster in left side bar.

Martin promoted our Putting for Polio event on Sept. 23. See poster.

Sargeant Dan questioned members and issued friendly fines.

District Governor Manon Mitchell visited our club.
Unite for Good

Manon
Manon gave an enthusiastic presentation called "Unite For Good", our RI motto. She emphasized "taking action and saying yes". She is a member of the Rotary Club of Calgary - Sarcee.
 
She has travelled to 34 countries. She currently is supporting a 5th Global Grant for Early Childhood Literacy in Cambodia. She is also supporting a Global Grant for Empowering Girls in the Dominican Republic.
 
Manon is working on Rotary Employment Partnership in Districts 5360 and 5370 through the Inclusion Alberta program.
 
Manon encourages Rotarians to join the Polio Plus Society, which has a special event on Nov. 1.
 
Manon outlined membership information for our district and for our club. District 5360 has 47 clubs: 43 Rotary, 4 Rotaract. Our district conference is scheduled for May 1, 2, and 3 in Red Deer.
 
Manon recognized the terrific support she receives from her husband of 20 years, Kurt Kowalchuk. Kurt is a past DG.

Highway Clean Up - Sept. 8
 
Led by Clark, 11 Rotarians worked to clean up a section of Highway 1A. They collected 16 bags of refuse. About 3 to 5 more volunteers would be optimal next time. The crew enjoyed social time and food after (below).  Well done team!

Olayinka Hakeem Babalola, a member of the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi, Nigeria, has been selected to become Rotary International’s president for 2026-27 (below).
He goes by Yinka Babalola.
Larry Lunsford, a member of the Rotary Club of Kansas City-Plaza, Missouri, USA, has been selected to become Rotary International President for 2027-28. (below)
