Belize Project Update

The Rotary granting system for international projects requires a sponsoring club (called an A Club) to contribute a base amount of a minimum of $5,000 Canadian. However much can be collected by the A Club will be matched once at the district level, once again by the Canadian government and Rotary Canada, and yet again by Rotary international. As the A Club, we have managed to raise $10,000, thanks to the generous donation from a fellow Rotarian. 

Additionally, other Rotary clubs can support the A Club application by contributing $4,000 US and applying for a C Club grant. Each C club contribution is also matched up the system. We needed 2 C clubs to support us in order to reach our funding goal of roughly US $145,000. Each C club contribution is worth more than $30,000 in the final project budget. 

Where are we now? 

1. Many of the clubs we approached did not have any funds that they could contribute to this project as a C club. (A special thanks to Allan Carr for his persistence in contacting the clubs in our District.) 

2. The Sylvan Lake Club has agreed to be a C club and to contribute US $4,000. 

4. The Canmore Club contributed $2,000 but cannot take on the extra responsibility of being a C Club. 

3. The Airdrie Club said they would be a C club but we would have to help them raise the required US $4,000. Canmore’s $2,000 will go toward this this goal. 

5. Other individual Rotarians in our club have so far pledged $1,200. 

This means that the bottom line is that we still need $2,365.62 to reach the goal of US $4,000 that can enable Airdrie to be our second C Club.  Can you help?

Call Michael or Judie Bopp (telephone 403-852-8283 or email anyone@fourworlds.ca) to discuss the available options for how you can donate and receive a charitable tax receipt. It is important to remember that you cannot donate directly to the Cochrane Rotary Club for this purpose because an A Club cannot give funds to a C Club.  

Time Sensitive 

The whole process is time sensitive because the deadline for submitting our grant application to the District is May 1st. You don’t need to have donated the funds by then, but we need the commitments in place.
